About the National Memorial Arboretum
The Arboretum is the UK’s year-round centre of Remembrance and part of the Royal British Legion. We are the Nation’s centre of Remembrance, freely open to all. Our 150-acre landscape is home to over 25,000 trees, punctuated by 400 memorials that recognise the service and sacrifice made by the Armed Forces, emergency services and civilian organisations to our country.
The Arboretum in one of the UK’s leading visitor attractions and we welcome over 300,000 people through our doors each year. They come to explore our site, learn more about the fascinating stories behind our memorials, spend time in our woodlands, and to attend some of the 250+ events that take place each year.
The Arboretum is an award-winning destination, including the 2018 Visit England Awards for Excellence: Large Visitor Attraction of the Year (Gold).

The Role
We are looking for an experienced fundraiser to join the Arboretum team, where you will help to raise awareness of our charitable status and generate income through fundraising activities. You will manage the Arboretum Friends scheme to maximise income, incentivise visitors and grow supporter engagement and insights. In partnership with the Visitor Services team, you will create and implement an onsite fundraising strategy to encourage visitor giving, and create a compelling dialogue to motivate visitor support. You will build mutually-beneficial relationships with colleagues in the Royal British Legion fundraising team to identify opportunities for shared resource/expertise, partnership working and collaboration on fundraising projects.
As the first point of contact for supporters/donors visiting the Arboretum, excellent communication and customer service skills are key. You will be responsible for ensuring that the Arboretum’s electronic database is fit for purpose, and that all activities conform to the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice and other relevant regulations.
You will have a strong understanding and experience of fundraising practices, and be passionate about developing engaging customer journey’s for visitors, corporate partners and stakeholders to deepen relationships and increase fundraising income in this area against agreed targets.
This role may occasionally be required to work outside of core office hours in order to play an active role in supporting the team at profile raising events.
